The Institute of Cardiology carries out intensive research in almost all relevant areas of modern cardiology. The institute employs more than 1,000 professionals, including one academician, two Corresponding Members of the Russian Academy of Science, 41 doctors of sciences, including 19 professors, 113 candidates of sciences, 4 honored workers of sciences, 6 Honored Doctors of the Russian Federation, 2 honorary cardiologists of the Russian Federation. The clinic staff is represented by 896 people, including 156 doctors, 5 doctors of sciences and 55 candidates of sciences, 59 doctors of the highest category and 21 – of the first category.
The Institute provides the grounds for the operation of the Laboratory for molecular - cellular pathology and gene diagnostics. Scientists from this laboratory have a long-term experience in electrophysiological research of the human and animal (rat) myocardium. Functional heterogeneity of human failing heart was studied extensively in our laboratory. We performed comparative research of myocardium of patients with heart failure of different etiology. As a result of this study we managed to register ambiguous alteration of sarcoplasmic reticulum function of myocardium of patients at the development heart failure, which led to an assumption on existence of various ways of myocardium adaptation to damaging factors. Our preliminary results showed that development of heart failure is accompanied with sarcoplasmic reticulum dysfunction.
Functional and Laboratory Diagnostics Department is specialized on studying proinflammatory factors, oxygen-dependent processes in platelets, mononuclear leucocytes and oxidative resistance of lipoproteins in metabolic syndrome. The research is focused on the study of cellular and molecular mechanisms of platelet aggregation activity disturbances during the association of diabetes mellitus, ischemic heart disease and heart failure.
Department of Chronic Heart Disease of Tomsk Institute of Cardiology accumulated an extensive knowledge of diagnostics, treatment and prevention of cardio-vascular pathologies, including chronic heart failure and such co-morbidities as metabolic syndrome, diabetes mellitus, and obesity in patients from Siberia and neighboring regions: the Far East, Middle Asia and Kazakhstan. As one of the leading departments of the Institute, it possesses 25 years of experience in experimental and clinical cardiology.
Research Institute of Cardiology successfully implements joint research projects with foreign colleagues on various cardiological issues. International scientific cooperation is developed successfully with such partner countries as the United States, Israel, Italy, Germany, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Switzerland, Austria, Korea, Czech Republic, Poland, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and other. Additionally, the staff actively promote their achievements abroad – annually they participate in international conferences, congresses and symposiums, and present the results of research and clinical work to their foreign colleagues.
